"Force Friday" may be over, but there is plenty more Star Wars goodness coming soon.
How soon? On Sept. 10, the free-to-play Star Wars: Uprising mobile game will release on iOS and Android devices. Even if you aren't a gamer, the game is definitely worth paying attention to. The game is official canon, taking place after the events of Return of the Jedi in the Anoat sector of the Star Wars galaxy. After the Emperor's death, Imperial leaders have quarantined the section of the galaxy to maintain tight control, using the formidable new Purge Troopers to enforce the Empire's iron will.
The Anoat sector just so happens to be the home of Hoth and Bespin, two locations Star Wars fans are no doubt familiar with thanks to their appearances in The Empire Strikes Back. Uprising will, along with the recently released Star Wars: Aftermath novel, help pave the way for the state of the Star Wars universe in preparation for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December.
As for how the game plays, it's a cooperative dungeon crawler that doesn't look all that different from Blizzard's popular Diablo series, only with laser pistols instead of crossbows and Stormtroopers instead of demons. Players work together to battle various Imperial enemies using their unique skills, and upon defeating those enemies are rewarded with items of various quality to improve their characters.
