In spite of its incredibly troubled development cycle, Deep Silver has persisted with work on Homefront: The Revolution. Now, the publisher has been able to share some exciting news with the gaming community. Deep Silver has confirmed the release date for Homefront: The Revolution, with the title expected to launch in May of this year.
To be specific, the follow-up to 2011’s original will be released on May 17 for North American audiences, and on May 20 in all other territories. Homefront: The Revolution is expected to be released for PS4, PC, and Xbox One, although there’s also something special in store for those looking to play the game on Microsoft’s console. Xbox One owners will be able to sign up for a closed beta of the game from February, and therefore get a first glimpse at the game in action.
There is, however, a catch. Places for entry are limited, and the beta will only be open to players who acquire an Xbox One Beta Token. Those interested in taking part in the beta will need to keep an eye out for a number of promotions that both Deep Silver and Xbox will be running over the next few weeks, so fans of the franchise should stay sharp.
Alongside the news of the release date and beta, Deep Silver also showcased a brand new trailer for the title. The footage gives gamers a glance at the Yellow Zones of the game: the residential zones of the city, which fall under the rule of the vicious KPA. Those interested in checking out the trailer can find it above.
The second instalment of the Homefront franchise moves the game from the west coast of the United States to Philadelphia, where the KPA are exercising their military might over the oppressed people of the city. However, the player is thrust into the resistance movement, and will attempt to overthrow the occupiers, taking down the KPA piece by piece.
News of the game’s release date will no doubt be of a relief for fans of the franchise, particularly when many suspected that it would never see the light of day. The Homefront name was one of the casualties of the closure of THQ, before the rights to the series were purchased first by Crytek and then Deep Silver. Although Homefront: The Revolution has been confirmed for a long time, many were concerned that the game would never hit store shelves. After many delays, it seems as though the game is finally here. Let’s hope that it was worth it.
Homefront: The Revolution will be released in North America on May 17, 2016, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and in all other regions on May 20, 2016.
